Our future Community Centre
The Oropi Settlers Inc – Oropi Memorial Hall.
Redevelopment: It’s been a long time coming, but Oropi Hall’s $2million-dollar makeover has finally begun. The first two redevelopment stages have commenced. This includes shifting and enlarging the stage, a new meeting room, new toilets, additions to the playgroup space and an indoor/outdoor flow. Stage three includes two indoor squash courts and a new multipurpose fitness room and stage four additional car parking facilities.
Local volunteers from the district have been stripping the interior of the hall and they did a huge job, a big thankyou to all those who took part. The redeveloped hall will become a Community Centre and there will be something there for people of all ages.
The committee held a ‘New Beginning Ceremony’ on September 8 to celebrate the start of the redevelopment. This was well attended and there was a real atmosphere of jubilation, with about sixty people present. The World War 1 and World War 2 plaques were removed from the outside of the building to mark the beginning of the project and they’ll be placed in the foyer once the upgrade is complete.
The building will take 7 -8 months to complete.
The Annual General Meeting: This will be held at the Oropi School on Monday 12 th October 2015 at 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome. This is an opportunity to meet with the current committee, get a briefing on our present situation and an outline on what the future holds in store.
Squash :We are compiling a list of all those interested in squash – even if you are only prepared to learn please contact Mark Dean ph 5433021 to register as the list of names will help us fundraise for stage 3 (Squash courts)
Gala: Next year we plan on a repeat of the Garage Sale/Gala so please put those spare things in the back of your garage for us. The Garden Group have agreed to run a produce/plant stall for us. This is appreciated.
